Worship

We love to praise God together as a congregation at Grace Church.  On Sundays, we offer three different services of the Holy Eucharist.  At 7:45 AM we meet in the All Saints’ Chapel just inside the door on Cleveland Avenue.  This is a traditional service of Holy Eucharist from the Book of Common Prayer.  We love this intimate setting and it is the only service we offer on Sunday without music.

Our new 9:00 AM service has your family and small children in mind.  It is brief and includes lots in interaction.   It includes a children’s chat, setting the Holy Table together and offering Communion while teaching the essentials of our worship.  Families are encouraged to stay for the Christian Education Hour that follows at 9:30 AM.  The Adult Forum begins at 9:30 AM and the children of all ages meet in Knickle Hall for 15 minutes of singing with Mr. Robert H. Gangewere, Jr. our organist and choirmaster followed by lessons and crafts on the Bible verses from the day.  On 4th Sundays there is no 9:00 AM Service or Children's Sunday School.  All join the Youth and Family Service at 10:30 AM.

Our principal worship service is at 10:30 AM.  It is a full choral Holy Eucharist and is heralded in the Plainfield community by our 47-bell carillon by Jeff Spelman.  Robert Gangewere leads the adult choir as we sing the psalm, hymns and lots of beautiful service music.  Singing with joy is our goal in worship at the 10:30 AM service.  We hope you’ll want to join us as we sing robustly!

Once a month on the fourth Sunday the 9:00 AM service and the 10:30 AM service combine at 10:30 AM for “Youth and Family” worship.  All members worship together when we offer singing by the Grace Choristers, our children’s choir, a children’s homily, homemade bread for Communion and a high degree of children participating.

Many of our young people regularly participate as acolytes, readers and ushers.  We train both adults and youth to serve in the worship at Grace.  It truly is the work of the people and it is our joy every week to praise God.  We hope you’ll feel welcome and want to become a part of worship as a member of the Altar Guild, a lay reader, an acolyte, a host for coffee hour after the service, an usher….or just be present with us.  That’s what is most important!

There are opportunities for you to worship at Grace during the week.  On Tuesdays we offer Evening Prayer at 7:30 p.m. in the Grace Lounge followed by Adult Bible Study.

Wednesday mornings you can begin your day before work by joining us at 7:30 AM for Holy Eucharist and the Laying on of Hands for Healing.  At noon on Wednesdays, we offer Noonday Prayer in Spanish with a hymn sung in Spanish.

Worship helps give us strength for living a holy life during the week.  It also prepares us to serve.  There are many ways to serve at Grace:  Grace’s Kitchen (our soup kitchen for the hungry), our academic program (after school enrichment and tutoring for Plainfield children), sheltering the homeless three weeks a year, volunteering for Black History Month, helping with the Plainfield Girlchoir and serving with the Health Ministries Commission.

We hope you feel welcome at Grace.  We are so happy when you come to worship with us!
