Pastoral Letter from Father Gideon Uzomechina

Dear friends,

Praise Ye the Lord!

The Lord’s Name be Praised!
At our Parish Annual Meeting last Sunday, January 31, 2016, we deliberated on the vision, mission and ministries of God here at Grace Church, Plainfield. It was a godly and wonderful meeting with great, dedicated members of the parish in attendance. Indeed, God is doing a new thing in our midst and I am quite sure many if not all us can attest to this. The annual meeting has strengthened my confidence that our future here is very bright. I believe this because I am seeing that there is an understanding that the ministry here is not about us, rather it is about God in Christ Jesus.

I want to register my profound gratitude to the chair of the Nominating Committee, Karen Moore, who has retired from the Vestry as senior warden, for doing a great job in the nomination process. Another wonderful parishioner worthy of mentioning is Barbara Nichols who also just retired from the Vestry. Their unreserved doggedness and unquantifiable love for this parish are second to none. Even though they are no longer members of the Vestry for now, they are still part of my leadership team because I will be consulting with them from time to time to tap from their wealth of knowledge and wisdom as we all move this parish forward.

I welcome all the newly-elected officers into the Jesus Movement through Grace and I urge them to know that to whom much is given, much is expected. All the elected officers and the leaders of the various ministries of the parish should remember that on Saturday, March 12, from 9:30 a.m. through 3 p.m., we will meet for our annual retreat. It will be led by the Rev. Canon Dr. Robert Droste of the Congregation Development and Mission of the Diocese of New Jersey, and Canon Phyllis Jones, Diocesan Chief Finance Officer.

I encourage you to read the 2016 Annual Report. It contains invaluable information about all the activities at Grace. The well-written reports in it will help us to fulfill our theme for this ministry year: “Know Your Story and Live It Boldly!”

Now unto him who is able to keep us from falling, and to present us faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Right Onward!
The Venerable Gideon A. Uzomechina, D.Min.
Priest-In-Charge
